Paris
I am happy with these photos from my last trip to Paris. Most of them are from little day trips around the city that I would take by myself. I took the photo of the Eiffel Tower from the top of the Arc de Triomphe. I don’t hear people talk about it very often, but the Arc de Triomphe is quite beautiful up close, and the view from the top is very fun. After taking a few photos, I wandered down Champs Elysee to Pierre Herme to try an Ispahan macaron because I read they were noteworthy. I sat on the terrace, eating my giant macaron and watching the rain, knowing I must have been an egregious tourist but feeling only slightly guilty about it.
The last photo of the Louvre was taken from a window at the Musee D’Orsay. A, his father, brother, and I were there to see the impressionist works when the sun peaked out just enough to make the view from the windows particularly dynamic. From another window we could see the white domes of Sacre Coeur all the way out in Montmartre. It was odd to look out at a landscape dotted with such iconic landmarks. It reminded me of how it felt as a kid to drive up the 5 with my family and see the tip of the Matterhorn peaking out above the freeway. After the museum, we picked out cakes from a small pastry shop nearby and sat together, trying each other’s pastries and arguing the merits of some masterpiece over another.
